Better than fish?

One night, I saw Abu Ali, our building janitor, upset & in extreme anger. The building committee has fired his 19 years old son, Ali, from his janitorial job in the same building.

For Abu Ali, his world stopped and his only wish is to give back Ali his previous job or to be hired as a building janitor.

Although I was sympathetic with Abu Ali, I didn’t find the situation that miserable. Talking to his son, I realized that he hates being a janitor like his father. But since he is Palestinian, his options are limited.

Few days later, I had to take some pictures at the vegetable market so I took Ali with me as a bodyguard. In one of my shots, I have arranged the setting and asked him to take the picture. It was a simple. All he had to do is to press a button. At that moment, I realized that he was afraid to hold my cannon camera.

At that moment, an idea sparked in my mind: why not to develop his skills? What about photography?

I know of a photography school in Hamra, Zakira, that helps Palestinian teenagers learn that skills. After contacting them, they were willing to help. Free of charge, they welcomed Ali in their classes.

Few months later, I heard that Ali was hired in a local TV station as a camera man. I was extremely proud that a simple phone call can shift the interest of a young man from being a janitor in a building to a camera man in a TV station. Zakira were also happy with their contribution.

This combination of pride and happiness showed the importance of contributing to society. This feeling can’t be described and I wish to help other young people in aiming higher in their life by investing in their skills.

This story proves that it is “better to teach him how to fish than to give him a fish daily”.

“2012 gifts for 2012 smiles”

Objectives:

Draw a smile on the faces of 2012 orphans distributed all over the country by donating NEW toys during the upcoming holidays (Christmas and New Year).

With the dawn of a new year, Cedars for Care Association is planning to donate 2012 gifts to 2012 orphans. Our event is different through its focus on those children residing outside orphanages, mostly forgotten and deprived from minimal rights due to socio-economic restrictions. We aim at making a difference.

Through a close partnership with local NGOs, distributed all over the country, we will be able to locate and reach those children. Through the collaboration of schools, toy stores, and every single of one you, we will be able to gather the targeted number of gifts. Our main goal again is to put a smile on the faces of these unfortunate children and to show them that we care.

We, at Cedars for Care, believe that teaching our children good values, as early as can be, is the key to a brighter and more balanced future.

We sincerely believe that without the support of each one of you this event will not succeed. Join us to be the ones who put a SMILE ON AN ORPHAN’s FACE.

In this context, Cedars for Care Association would like to invite YOU to actively participate with our team to REACH OUR GOAL.

Toys should be newly purchased and wrapped with gift paper.

“2012 cadeaux pour 2012 sourires”

Objectif :

Mettre un sourire sur le visage de 2012 orphelins repartis dans tout le pays en donnant des nouveaux jouets à l’occasion des fêtes de fin d’années.

À la veille de la nouvelle année, l’association Cedars for Care prévoit de faire un don de 2012 cadeaux à 2012 orphelins. Notre événement est différent car nous voulons mettre notre attention sur les enfants résidant en dehors des orphelinats. Ils sont dans la plupart des cas oubliés et privés de droits minimaux en raison des restrictions sociaux-économiques. Nous visons à faire une différence.

Grâce à un partenariat étroit avec les ONG locales, réparties dans tout le pays, nous serons en mesure de localiser et d'atteindre ces enfants. Grâce à la collaboration avec un nombre d’écoles, des magasins de jouets et CHACUN DE VOUS, nous serons en mesure de recueillir le nombre ciblé de cadeaux. Notre objectif principal est de mettre un sourire sur les visages de ces enfants malheureux et de leur montrer que nous nous soucions d’eux.

Notre association croie que l’enseignement de nos enfants sur les bonnes valeurs doit commencer aussitôt que possible pour un meilleur avenir.

Khiam El Khair 365

Every month of Ramadan and for 14 years now, you helped the team of Khiam El Khair to offer unfortunate people their basic need: food.
With the growing number of needy people, Cedars for Care ngo now aims to provide food to the poor every day. 'Khiam El Khair 365' is a kitchen that will also help to employ, train and rehabilitate those who were forgotten in our society giving them back their dignity. Our goals are:daily food supply, job opportunities and house management training.

Let's work together to make this happen, anyone can help in any way. Let's not stay passive towards hunger, doing something about it will build a better society for all.

انشأت جمعية سيدرز للعناية لجانا مختلفة بهدف تحقيق اهدافها الرئيسية. واشارت رئيسة الجمعية عفت إدريس شاتيلا الى ان الجمعية خيرية بامتياز ولديها نشاطات عدّة، إضافة الى أنها لا تعتمد على التمويل الخارجي بل هي تمول نفسها من خلال نشاطاتها، او من خلال فاعلي خير، او أشخاص او شركات يكفلون المشاريع.
وعن اللجان شرحت شاتيلا عدة امور اولها حملة الأزرق الكبير التي تهدف الــى توعية الــســكــان حــول مشاكل الشواطئ وحماية الحياة البحرية، كما تحسين النظم الإيكولوجية المائية.
